BLEEDING HEAVILY
1. Put pressure on the wound with whatever is available to stop or slow down the flow of blood. You are acting as a 'plug' to stop the blood escaping. The pressure you provide will help the blood clot and stop the bleeding.
2. Call 999. Keep pressure on the wound until help arrive. Significant loss of blood can lead to a potentially serious condition called shock.
Please remember that amongst the *Mums World* team there are NO medical professionals. Information has been collated from reputable websites which will be listed at the end of the topic. If you are in doubt we recommend talking to your GP, midwife/health visitor or in more urgent circumstance contact NHS Direct.
